Leah's physical was today. She is in perfect health. Says so right in her medical records "perfect". She is caught up on her vaccinations and meets the minimum requirements set by NY State for entering the public school system.
She is 42.5 inches tall and 43 pounds. About a pound for every inch. That puts her in the 75th percentile for weight and 50th percentile for height. She has consistently grown about the same since birth. It is estimated that at the rate she has been going, adjustment for puberty, she will be about 5'6"/5'7" when she is fully grown. Much taller than myself.
*knock on wood* We shouldn't have Leah in to see the doctor again for another year. Leah's pediatrician will no doubt be the pediatrician for our next baby at the hospital so we will see him again soon.

Leah and Talking, other things
Leah talks...a lot. She repeats everything and doesn't forget it. Because of this she has her first swear phrase which I am trying to break her of, and not to mention myself as well, since it is my fault.
Her latest collection of phrases and short sentences are:
"I'm tired", "Come here", "Thank you for dinner", "Where is my _____?", Can I please have it?", "What is it?", "What is that?", "Why?!", "Can I go to or in ______?" and so on...too many to list. And everyday its another 4-5 things. Hard to keep track of. Her vocabulary has her doctor impressed :) She has a few spanish phrases like "Dame ahora" (Give me now), "Porque no?" (Why not?), "Te quiero" and a few others. She knows a ton of spanish words.
I am sure now that she is going to be surrounded by other children all day she will coming home with some wonderful words AND not so wonderful words.
Another thing that Leah is doing more is understanding abstract concepts.
For instance, if I tell her she can go to the pool later when Daddy comes home, she doesn't ask to go to the pool until Matt comes home. She doesn't drive me up the wall asking me every five seconds to go in the pool.
If I say to her "Leah if you clean up now, you can go sooner." She will understand and clean up. And then tell me "All done. Clean. Lets go!"
She also understands the difference between yes and no. Ask Leah if she needs something and if she does, she will say yes. If she doesn't she will say no.
She also understands some opposites, up and down, tall and short, big and small.
She also talks about her dislikes and likes. Give her something she doesn't like and she will tell you "I don't like." But if something tastes good she will say "I like, yummy."
The milestone for her age for vocabulary is can use 50 words or more. I have counted nearly 150 and still counting. Good to see she is on target.
I would say more than half of her speech is understandable to me, family and friends, and about half her speech is understandable to most other people.
She uses short sentences more often everyday. She talks about herself a lot. Today she told me that "I want curls, no pony" and "I am cute".
Oh we are creating a monster. But a lovable, wonderful monster we all love very much.
Milestone for things like naming at least one color don't usually happen until she is about 30 months old and so on. There are things I don't put pressure on her about. That is one of them. It is normal for toddlers to pick one color and stick to it. Sometimes she will point to something and say "Orange" and it is orange. If you ask her she will tell you 99.9% of the time that the thing is green.
I asked her today if she knows her friends names. And she said "Lilah."
Today she is asking Why to everything. And wondering around the synagogue like she owns the place.
She is well on her way.

22 Month Doc's Visit
Went to the doctor today for Leah's well baby visit. I tend to skip most of them but we needed to get some vaccinations because she needs them for daycare.
Afterwards the doctor gave her a lolly pop. She sat at the bus stop enjoying it.

6 Month Visit=Ouchies!
Leah had her 6 month well baby check up today. Ruth picked us up and accompanied us to the visit. Had some paperwork to do because of the move and some money crap to take care of. Then it was off to be weighed and measured. She is now 15 pounds, 4 ounces, and 25 inches long.
She got two shots. Only cried a tiny bit when she got them. Nothing like the last visit. I didn't realize they gave her the flu vaccine the last visit. Felt kind of stupid. The doctor scolded me for not having her nails cut. Saw that one coming. I don't keep up with it as much as should, mostly cause they get so long in about 2-3 days. I will do better in keeping up with them.
Hmm...that was about it at the visit. She is thriving well and right on target in terms of all the stuff she should be doing now. She grabs at stuff, holds her head up and can roll over a bit. And she coos.
Then afterwards we went to lunch with George. Had a nice yummy meal. Thank you!
I have some pics to put up and a few other updates I will try to get around to soon. And I need to scan the pics of Leah with Louie and the girls. Too cute :D

Well Baby Visit #2
Today I trekked Leah and me to the pediatrician's office. We took the bus and then walked from Hempstead Turnpike to the doc's. And then from the doc's to Old Country Road. Then I we went to Starbucks to hang out. I got a decent amount of much needed exercise.
Leah is now 12 1/2 pounds and 21 1/2 inches. She got two sets of vaccines, howled her head off but seems to be all better now.

Icky Doctor
Today was Leah's first official well baby visit. It was early enough for Matt to come to it. Her pediatrician Dr. Gunsberger got to the office a little late but that was okay cause he saw us right away. I don't believe I've ever been to the pediatrician and it take more than 15 minutes *except for the waiting time*. Her jaundice has cleared up and he said she is showing great development. Matt was holding her when she got her shots, she cried so very hard. I thought I was going to die. But she was fine in about two minutes or so.
She is now 10 1/2 lbs and 20 1/2 inches long. :D
She was a lil bit out of it when we came home but by night time she was fine.
She is already beginning to show signs of independent smiling!

Grandpa George's Birthday
August till the end of October are pretty busy birthday months in our family's. Matt's dad starts them off today.
We went out to dinner at Black Forest Brew Haus in Farmingdale, NY. Matt got this funky Captain Crunch Chicken thing. He didn't end up liking it. Both he and his sister got the beer sampler. The food was quite good and there was a lot of it so I took much of my meal home.
Leah was pretty good as usual. Had to feed her and what not but Ruth was nice enough to hold her while I ate :D
All in all a good time.

First Doctor's Visit
Matt's mother Ruth came by this morning. She picked Leah and me up so I could take Leah to the pediatrician. I was a bit of a nervous wreck, though I wasn't showing it. Leah was a lil jaundice when we left the hospital so I was a bit concerned about it.
Her doctor is Dr. G. He was the doctor who was checking her out at the hospital. I hadn't had the opportunity to find a pediatrician for her yet. I liked this doctor off the bat and his office is about 10 minutes from home so I figured why not.
We got to the office on time and I filled out some paperwork and he saw us right when he said he would. I love that. Being that Leah is only 6 days old, sitting in a waiting room just wasn't what I wanted to do. The nurse checked her weight and height. She'd gained back all the weight she lost in the hospital. This made me incredibly happy. I was a little worried that maybe she wasn't getting enough food. Its hard to tell how much your baby is getting when you are breastfeeding. Then the doctor checked her vitals, did a physical and said all was good. He said she just had mild jaundice and that it was looking better.
We left the doctor and a bit of the weight on my shoulders came off. Our next appointment is her one month visit.
Afterwards we went to Ruth's house. I rested a lil and now I am back home awaiting another sleepless night.
I can't believe how much I love this lil girl already. It is a surreal experience for me. I look down at my belly and still expect to see it all big and full. I find myself missing the feeling of her in me. I get a lil down but then I just go look at her and it helps. Its hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact she is here.
