Ice Skating w/Aunt Lindsay

Lindsay took Leah ice skating today. Leah has gone a few times this Winter and after a few go arounds I think she really got the hang of it.

She had a fall & got a little banged up. She was upset (rightfully so) and a bit scared BUT she had some hot chocolate and went back on the ice.

The Bronx Zoo

We went to the Bronx Zoo today. The Bronx Zoo has a special place in my heart. Many days were spent at the zoo with my family going up. As a preteen (tween) I spent many days there with friends. The zoo was literally a 5 minute walk from my house. I also volunteered there and even worked there for a short while during my teen years. Needless to say I am always up for a trip to the old neighborhood and zoo.

Matt bought us a family membership. I already have trips plans to the Prospect Park & Queens Zoos. I am looking forward to using the membership this summer.

We met up with Lindsay and her friend Susy & Susy's two beautiful kids Silas & Jack. Leah was excited to spend the day with Silas & Lindsay.

We spent the afternoon walking and looking at the animals, chasing the kids around and enjoying the really nice weather.

On the way back to the exit after leaving Lindsay & company we stopped at the Children's Zoo and then stopped for an ice cream cone.

We weren't far from my where my dad lives so we stopped at his house. My mom came over. I cooked dinner & we all hung out for the evening. I miss home a lot. Home to me is the Bronx. No matter how many years have passed since I last lived there, it is still where I grew up. In my heart it is home. I love sharing it with Leah & Louis.

Burton & More

We had a full day today. We went to NYC to visit the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). We met up with Lindsay at the museum. It was very busy but we still had a good time.

Leah dressed up especially for the Tim Burton Exhibit. Her inspiration was his latest movie 'Alice in Wonderland'.

After the museum we walked to Alice's Tea Cup-Chapter II but as expected there was a very long wait (2 hours) so we opted to grab some pizza at Patsy's.

Louis woke up and was ready to eat as well.

Leah ordered herself a Shirley Temple with extra cherries.

We took the opportunity to take some photos of Lindsay with the kids.

The Patsy's we ate at was next to Dylan's Candy Bar. Lindsay treated Leah to a bag of assorted candies that they went and picked out together.

We walked towards MoMA, not far from where Matt was parked and parted ways with Lindsay. On the walk back to the car we stopped so Leah could take a picture with Robert Indiana's pop art icon sculpture 'Love'.

Ice Skating Fun

We went ice skating with Lindsay today. Matt, Lindsay & Leah spent the morning skating around the ice. Well I should say holding up Leah as she attempted to skate. After an hour or so she became more independent and took a few steps on her own. She handled her falls well.

This is what Louis did:

Lunch & ice cream afterward at Friendly's

Nana's Sweaters & More

Leah's great-grandmother Bernice is called Nana by Leah. Nana is a knitting machine. She had many beautifully knitted sweaters for Leah over the last 4 years. Leah's Aunt Lindsay has taken up knitting and has turned into an exceptional knitter and has also knitted clothing for Leah. Leah's grandma Ruth has taken up crocheting again (she learned how years ago) and Leah has benefited from it as well. Ruth managed to pick it up again and before you knew it she was making sweaters, shawls & scraves in no time at all.

People may think making your own clothing is a thing of the past but Leah will tell you otherwise. I look forward to the day that Leah learns to knit and crochet. I have fond memories of my mother crocheting clothing and household items. I think it is pretty neat that Leah is developing the same memories with Matt's family.

Here she is wearing one of sweaters Nana made for her.

Singing in the Rain

Lindsay bought Leah this raincoat and hat last year. Leah absolutely loves dancing and singing in the rain. It is the perfect combination.
