Beach Season Begins

It is Memorial Day weekend and we did what 90% of people out here do is head to the beach.

The TOBAY sprinkler park opened up this weekend. The kids couldn't wait to play. I could go on for paragraphs about how much I love this park. It has something for everyone and makes it easy to have all three kids in one place. It can become a bit hectic when it is busy but it's still great.

Farewell to Summer

In celebration of our last weekend before school starts and the unofficial end to summer we went on our second visit in two days to Tobay Beach.

This time we stuck to the sprinkler park. Leah had a great time running through the park.

Sand, Surf & Sunshine

The meteorologists drove us crazy this past weekend. We had Hurricane Earl setting his sights on Long Island so no one was sure what would happen. As it turned out he didn't make landfall on the island, he lost his strength 100 miles out. The ocean still felt it. It was very windy out but beautiful. We spent the afternoon at Tobay Beach.

Matt with his trusty neat looking for minnows to catch.

Leah following along

We never go over to the ocean side of Tobay but we wanted to see how the surf was after Earl visiting the area. It was pretty rough out in the water.

At first Leah didn't want anything to do with the water, then she started testing it out. She only went in up to her ankles or so. There was a very strong rip tide. You could feel the water pulling you in.

4th of July Part 1

We headed out this afternoon to Tobay. We met up with Ruth, George & Lindsay. Louis and Leah did their thing in the sand & water. Grabbed some lunch from the Seafood Shack. Then finished off with a stop at the water park. So happy we got the pass for the beach. Well worth it.

Beach Daze

Leah loves the beach. She asked to go to Tobay for the evening so off we went.

Leah & Matt looking for small Hermit crabs.

Leah took a break from searching for hermit crabs to show Louis the seaweed in the water. He always stops to look at whatever Leah is showing him.

Searching...always searching.

She was telling Louis that sand is not for eating.

Then she showed him how to look for hermit crabs.

We stayed until sunset.

Soon after Leah and Matt let some of the hermit crabs and go, the rest they handed over to a couple of kids playing in the water.

She sure loves the beach.

Spring Kick-Off

We celebrated Spring today by heading over to Tobay Beach and playing at the playground there. We packed up some sandwiches for lunch and met up with our neighbors/friends. It was a beautiful day.

Beach Day at Tobay

Why we haven't gone as a family to Tobay beach is beyond me. Matt has gone as a kid and teenager. I've gone with Leah and with friends but we've never all gone together. The bay was awesome today. Not overcrowded at all. Just families having a good time. I am sure we will be back there often this summer. They have an incredible new playground that is worth the price of admission. We had a wonderful day.

Leah's first jump into the water. The bay is great, no waves, just calm waters and it is much warmer than the ocean. If you don't mind the snails, seaweed and occasional lil crab then it is perfect. Leah and Matt certainly don't mind any of the latter. Leah plays with the seaweed and Matt collects the snails.

This is the first beach trip where Leah spent more time in the water than in the sand. Though she still did love playing in the sand.

Leah took a few breaks to just 'relax and listen to some music'.

Matt found a live horseshoe crab so we looked at that for a bit. Matt spent most of the afternoon collecting hermit crabs and snails.

Playing with the sand and water.

Taking a break before heading home.

Great playground with sprinklers and climbing rope section and other fun stuff, like sand boxes and slides.

Leah took running starts before going through the gauntlet of sprinklers.

Rare moment, picture of us three together. Of course Leah did not want to be in the picture.

Before we left Leah changed into dry bottoms, put on her headphones, cranked on the music and off we went.
