Baby It's Cold Outside

Leah had her first dance performance of the current dance year. She and her dance mates danced to "Baby It's Cold Outside" at a local charity event, Annual Festival of Trees hosted by the Cradle of Aviation Museum to support the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County.

Contrary to the song's lyrics it hasn't really been cold out at all. Still we were able to stay in the festive holiday mood.

The dance studio had a number of performances featuring holiday songs. The kids danced beautifully and had a lot of fun. Afterward we wandered around the museum looking at the exhibits. We were joined by Grandpa George and Grandma Ruth. It was a nice way to spend the morning.

Leah worked really hard on getting her grand battement en attitude (think Rockette kicks) for the past month. I was so proud of how well she did them.

There were also various characters walking around greeting the children, taking photos. We stopped to say hi to Elmo. Leah may be 7 and some would say a bit old to get excited over the characters but she isn't. Not one bit. She loved meeting and taking photos with them.


There were activities for the children. We decorated cookies and Grandma got the kids stuffed kitties.

Rice Krispy Treat Houses

Leah got the coolest Chanukah gift from Ruth & George. A Rice Krispy Treat Holiday House Decorating kit.



We worked on it tonight. Looks great and tasted yummy.


Matt sat with the baby (who slept) and watched.


Leah's completed houses...she loves this kind of thing. She could decorate for hours without a problem. She didn't even care to eat any of it!

Mother's Day 2009

We went out for brunch with Ruth, George and Lindsay. Afterward we stopped at Starkie Brothers and Leah picked out some plants with Matt. We came back to the house and they planted them in a railing planter. Came out very nicely.

It was a really windy day so we went out to the beach to fly a kite.

It was a great Mother's Day.

Passover/Easter

We spent the 1st Seder night of Passover with Nana Bernice and the family at her house. Nice dinner, good food and great company. 2nd Seder was spent at the Rabbi's house with his family. It is becoming a yearly tradition and one we enjoy participating in. Leah knows Dayenu pretty well now and can sing along with most of it, not just the chorus part.

Being a family with Judeo-Christian backgrounds with personal agnostic/atheist overtones we partake in both sides when it comes to holidays. We aren't religious/observant of any religion at the moment but we still feel it is important for Leah to learn about the cultures and traditions surrounding us. As she gets older we will figure what we will do, if anything. Or maybe like myself she will ask to participate in one thing over the other.

For Easter we spent the day out and about. Leah woke up to find a basket full of goodies in her room. We went to White Post Farms for their Easter Spectacular. We really enjoy the place. Leah loves it. Even though it was a bit chilly and windy Leah still wanted to go. We feed the animals, decorated a goose egg, rode a pony, rode on the train, found eggs in a egg hunt in the hay (Leah loves playing in the hay) and we visited with the Easter bunny.

Afterward we went home for a bit and then we back out to have dinner with Lindsay, Ruth & George at a local restaurant B.K. Sweeney's. Then we went to see what the Easter Bunny left for us at Grandma & Grandpa's house. Lots of goodies there as well. We are fortunate to have such wonderful, generous people in our lives.

Leah was dropped off a little while ago. She went to the train station to drop Lindsay off. She laid down next to us on the couch and now is snoring away. Big weekend for a lil kid.

Tree Decorating - Take Two

We spent the evening putting up our tree, only to find out that we couldn't get all our lights to work AND get our topper on the tree. I've been asking for a new tree for a while and Matt went out to get one. He brought back a monster of a tree but it is beautiful and ended up being perfect for us.
