Beach Daze

Leah loves the beach. She asked to go to Tobay for the evening so off we went.

Leah & Matt looking for small Hermit crabs.

Leah took a break from searching for hermit crabs to show Louis the seaweed in the water. He always stops to look at whatever Leah is showing him.

Searching...always searching.

She was telling Louis that sand is not for eating.

Then she showed him how to look for hermit crabs.

We stayed until sunset.

Soon after Leah and Matt let some of the hermit crabs and go, the rest they handed over to a couple of kids playing in the water.

She sure loves the beach.

Last Day of Kindergarten

Today was Leah's last day of kindergarten. Unbelievable! Cannot believe the past year went by so quickly. It was just yesterday that we were dropping Leah off for her first day of preschool.

Leah had a great year and is looking forward to first grade. Couldn't ask for anything more.

Fashion Diva

Leah in an outfit my mom bought her recently- jean shirt dress with black gladiator sandals. Leah asked me to style her hair into an updo, one she saw on tv. She wanted to dress up because we were going out to celebrate Matt's birthday.

Even with a nice dress & sandals on Leah still gets her hula hooping on.

Lunchtime with Leah

We spent the afternoon at the pool. Perfect way to spend a Sunday. We packed lunch and snacks for us to have in the terrace area. Leah ate half a turkey & cheese on Whole wheat sandwich, strawberries, cherries, and carrots & grape tomatoes with hummus. She picked the veggies & fruit over Doritos.

Best Big Sister

Louis was suffering more than usual tonight due to his teething. Very irritable and tired. I've been applying Humphrey's Teething Pellets to his gums and it has helped quite a bit, especially before bedtime. But tonight nothing was cutting it. Not nursing, not his teething rings, not the teething pellets, nothing was helping.

After tucking Leah in for the night she asked if she could lay down with Louis for a bit. I told her he was very cranky and may not be the best company. She was sure she could get him to calm down. She suggested I read to both of them. I read them Judith Viorst's "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" and Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are". Louis laid there next to Leah and listened to me read.

Next she suggested I sing him the same songs I used to sing her when she was a baby (and sometimes do now because she likes them). That did it. He went right to sleep.

She is very gentle with Louis and very patient with us when we need to care for his needs ahead of her's. Many people say "well that is how it is now, just wait a few years it will change" and I cannot help but disagree. I had a very similar relationship with my youngest brother Gilberto and it never changed. As a preteen/teenager I was happy to take him with me everywhere. I suspect Leah is going to have a great bond with her brother as they grow older together.

Leah's Circus Act?

Leah hoops nearly everyday after school. Today I suggested she try hooping with two hoops. This was her first attempt.

Funny Faces

Leah can be very facially expressive. One look can say a thousand words about what she is feeling. She has a bit of a class clown streak that runs through her and it creeps out every now and again. It balances her out especially on days when I think she is too wise/mature for her age.
