Our beautiful dancer

Leah had a wonderful competition experience today. Her team did beautifully and competed well. They won some top awards and went home very happy. I bought Leah a shirt she's had her eye on for a while now. She couldn't wait to put it on.

Leah's passion for dance is something I'm sometimes quite envious of. She works so hard to be good at it and more importantly she truly loves and enjoys it. I'm so happy she found it early on in her life. I'm sure that no matter what she chooses to do as she grows older? Somehow someway she'll always be dancing...one way or another.

Playgrounds for All

Matt had to run some errands today and wanted to stop at Microcenter to pick up some computer related items he needed so we stopped at Eisenhower Park for the afternoon. I was looking forward to finally taking the kids to the new playground that was opened there last Fall. The LATCP- Let All The Children Play Foundation- is responsible for the project. It is a playground fit for all ages and for children of all abilities, perfect for them to play together, a do so safely. After years of Leah being at a school for children with various levels of ability I really appreciated seeing how accessible the playground is for all children.

The playground is set up with different areas depending on the age of the children. There is an area for infants and toddlers, school age children,  and a great obstacle/sensory playground.

Leah took her Razor scooter out for a ride.

Summer Has Arrived...

We had a very mild Winter and now it's Summer. Well not really but with the temperatures in the 70s it has felt more like Summer than Winter/Spring. We've been spending most of our free time outdoors.

First Dance Competition--Bravo!

Today Leah competed in her first ever dance competition. She's on a team of 7 & 8 year olds. They danced 4 routines together and one large company routine. Their dances include lyrical, jazz, hip-hop and tap. Leah has worked hard this year and has been dedicated to attending her dance classes, practicing her routines and staying on top of her school work as well. She danced very well and the team won Golds/high gold for their dances.

Our day began earlier than usual. Leah woke up on her own, showered and then woke me up to help get her ready. I made sure to organize, label and double AND triple check all of her supplies the night before. I did the same two more times in the morning.

Except for two mishaps (both my doing) everything worked out well. I braided Leah's hair the wrong way so I had to fix it when we got to the school. We also had an issue with a wig she wears for her tap number. Even though we had it held down with a dozen bobby pins AND she danced, jumped and ran for 15 minutes before her dance, it still fell off her while dancing. We will make sure this does not happen again at the next competition. I missed the number because I ran to grab some coffee and it took longer than expected. Fortunately a parent recorded it so I was able to see it. She danced beautifully even with the wig coming off her head.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

The kids are big fans of Dr. Seuss. Leah loves his books and reads them often to Louis. Her school was celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday today so Leah dressed up. She wore the skirt from Louis' first birthday party and Cat in the Hat hat. So cute!
