A lil Mad Hatter Tea

Leah wanted to have a small tea party for her birthday this year. She picked out pink and black as her theme colors and left the rest to me. Leah loves Alice in Wonderland and especially the Mad Hatter.

I found some large tea cups at a local thrift shop, painted them to use as part of the decor.

I found tea cup planters online, perfect for a craft for girls ages 7-8.

I found these servers at Target and with some tulle and butterflies I think they came out nicely and went well with the theme.

One of the centerpieces I made from the tea cup planters the girls were painting for their craft time.

Beautiful roses purchased from the local market---matched the pink perfectly.

The tea cup planter and saucer craft.

After the girls were done with their craft they went outside to play in the playground for a bit. Meanwhile I took care of setting up their afternoon tea. We had a few options for the kids and their parents joining us. The Peanut Butter & Strawberry Jam and Egg Salad w/Dill Sandwiches were the girls' favorite sandwiches. We also had a cranberry chicken salad and tuna salad sandwiches. We opted to serve juices and iced teas rather than hot tea. Fruit punch went over well, as did the pink lemonade. Leah did have a cup of her favorite hot berry tea. We also served these adorable mini red velvet Whoopie pies I found at the local supermarket. Mini cupcakes and cookies rounded out the dessert offerings.

After tea the girls who stayed after tea played for a while. The girls wanted to play a board game together, after some debating they all agreed on playing Monopoly. Leah was the banker.

Leah opened gifts and one of our friends gave Leah a new pet turtle. She freaked out. Leah had no idea it was even a possibility.

Our newest family member. He doesn't look too happy but we'll do our best to make sure he is.

It turned out to be a really nice party (as expected) and I think the girls had a great time. I'm so grateful for our wonderful family and friends. Every year they join us and make our get togethers and celebrations extra special.
